Can you recommend any good books to read about stamps

I am currently reading 'The Joy Of stamps' by Hunter Davies and nearly finnished I am always looking for new books about stamps to read can you recommend future books about stamps for me to read?

 

Jim, I find that most of the time I am reading the catalog instead of non-fiction books about stamps. That said, however, Amos Press, the people who publish the scott catalogs have a number of books about stamps some of which are identification guides or about famous stamp collectors and other stamp related areas.

Thanks for the link Darrin ,ill check those links you have suggested.....if you have not recieved those definitives I sent you by now they must have disappeared let me know and I will send some more,dont send me any stamps till you have recieved mine first.

Well, I need some book concerning basic stamp-collecting. Do you guys have any suggestions for a newbie like me? I'm not familiar with stamp-collecting and I really want get myself acquainted with the basic terms, tools and things like that.

One of the best books ( IMO of course ) that Harris publishes in the US/BNA postage stamp catalog. The first pages on general stamp knowledge is quite good if you are a newcomer. It is relatively inexpensive, and covers US, possessions, trust,confederate, etc and British North America Canada and provinces, and throws in United Nations, Includes stamp identifier pages also.

I really enjoyed "Blue Mauritius: The Hunt for the World's Most Valuable Stamps" by Helen Morgan.

 

Sounds very interesting. Is there an eBook version?

 

I got a great book about the early British empire stamps on EBay. it talked about how the postal administration was set up with much local resistance because it cut into the local revenue. I have it in another house so I will look up the title when I go there. I don't think this is the same one but it sound good:
