I am currently reading 'The Joy Of stamps' by Hunter Davies and nearly finnished I am always looking for new books about stamps to read can you recommend future books about stamps for me to read?
Jim, I find that most of the time I am reading the catalog instead of non-fiction books about stamps. That said, however, Amos Press, the people who publish the scott catalogs have a number of books about stamps some of which are identification guides or about famous stamp collectors and other stamp related areas. Here are links to their product guide. Perhaps these might be available in a local library (not sure whether you would have any US publications in a library in Scotland) or you can order directly from Scott. http://editions.amospublishing.com/stamppg/default.aspx?d=20120702 http://editions.amospublishing.com/stamppg/default.aspx?d=20120702 I hope these help. Darrin

Jim, they were already in the mail by the time I saw this note. I did, however, forget to include the 3 older items from your original list. I will send these to you separately. I am not worried if the ones you sent got lost in the mail. No, I still haven't received them but hopefully they will turn up.
Well, I need some book concerning basic stamp-collecting. Do you guys have any suggestions for a newbie like me? I'm not familiar with stamp-collecting and I really want get myself acquainted with the basic terms, tools and things like that.
Hi, guys. I am really interested about stamps and I'm hoping to find some suggestions on how to collect the best stamps from Asia.
One of the best books ( IMO of course ) that Harris publishes in the US/BNA postage stamp catalog. The first pages on general stamp knowledge is quite good if you are a newcomer. It is relatively inexpensive, and covers US, possessions, trust, confederate, etc and British North America Canada and provinces, and throws in United Nations, Includes stamp identifier pages also. http://www.amazon.com/BNA-2012-Postage-Stamp-Prices
I can't recommend any book specifically, but this link to an online philatelic bookstore will certainly satisfy almost anyone's collecting interests. http://www.philatelybooks.com/show_cat.php?catid=74&type=2
I got a great book about the early British empire stamps on EBay. it talked about how the postal administration was set up with much local resistance because it cut into the local revenue. I have it in another house so I will look up the title when I go there. I don't think this is the same one but it sound good: A History of Britain in Thirty-six Postage Stamps by Chris West (Oct 22, 2013) (11) FormatsPriceNewUsed Hardcover Order in the next 22 hours to get it by Friday, Jun 27.
