The 4 s.s. of this series, are rather plain.(I show only one) But what makes this series extraordinary is the type of make: The embossing, here seen from the back, give the stamps the impression of real oil-paintings.On the frontside a laquer-coating was applied, what gives them a shiny appearance, what does not show well on the scans. Alltogether an unusual set.The only pity is,that they used just only 4 different paintings for a set of 16.
Fishes,3-D stamps, issued Feb.27th,1969 (part I of 2) Problems: I did not want to scan this set fixed by a vario page, but with an "ordinary" stock-card. However,it turned out to be impossible, because the stamps are so heavy, that the plastic strip of the stock-card cannot hold them. So I put the stamps right on the scanner, what is not that easy done, because the stamps are not fixed at all. My first scan gave a strange result.Instead of scanning the group of four, the scanner scanned each stamp individuelly. Adding a black paper above the stamps, solved the problem. But also a scan of the group of four with a white background is possible, if I had moved the limits of the scanned detail so long, that all four stamps appeared. Problems,problems,problems...
Here are the two definitive stamps, mentioned in post #26. Issued May 2nd,1966. I found them offered as full sheets of 45.So I am left now with 44 spares. I was quite happy to find an offer for a number of Bhutan stamps,I would like to add to my collection. However the dealer,a certain Lee Clark in California did not want to send to foreign countries. He claimed, that this means to much trouble, because shipments can be traced till their exit-point from the US and often disappear thereafter. As far as I have learned, that is exactly true.Except that they never leave the US. (talking about registered mail !)
Lee Clark is an old-time dealer who I used to buy from on occasion. As I remember he was in Oceanside or Carlsbad, CA then. The mail service is deteriorating in the U.S. Anglobob has lost more than one registered packages after they arrived in the U.S. postal system. I still get my orders without loss, but I rarely get any registered mail. Seems registered mail is a red flag for postal thieves. Don
s.s. 1 I like these s.s.,because the surface is iridescent.Depending on the angle you look at the sheet, the colours are changing.
One of the most extraordinary stamp series of Bhutan: "5000 years history of steel-making",issued June 2nd,1969. (part I of 3) Printed on steel-foil.Problem with this set is,that steel has a tendency to become corroded.Rusted stamps can be the result. One of the Bhutan sets, what is not so frequently offered.
(part III of 3,airs) I would like to buy the s.s.to this series.Mssrs.L.Clark have them in their price-list,but...
