I know this isn't everyone's cup of tea, but I love the cute styles of animated characters or cartoon character stamps. It's probably by virtue of the fact that I'm living in Japan right now and that's basically the biggest thing featured on stamps! Also, I guess you could say I'm just a big kid at heart! I'm wondering since it seems like we have members from around the globe on the forum here, has your country been very much into releasing stamps with animated characters on them? Any pictures you'd like to share? I'd love to get a glimpse of any that you might have or know of!
There are many such stamps in the United States. Here is one of them. This strip of 5 from a sheetlet came out in 2010. http://about.usps.com/news/national-releases/2010/pr10_068.htm
@Hochstrasse those ones are great! I used to love the Garfield comic as a child! I think that one is my favorite of the 5 stamps you showed pictures of! I had also seen stamps in recent years from the States that were Disney Pixar and they had things like Finding Nemo and Monsters Inc. on the stamps. Nice and bright and fun!
I don't personally own these stamps, but I did collect the Looney Tunes sheetlets which I thought were pretty fun. Those reminded me of the Saturday cartoons I used to watch as a kid. http://globalstamps.com/bugs_bunny.htm
@Hochstrasse those ones are cute too! I loved Looney Tunes when I was younger too. These are the Pixar ones I was telling you about, so others can see them too:
The Pixar stamps are really nice. There are really so many cartoon themed stamps that a topical collection of them would be very interesting.
Some cute Disney inspired ones - I love the Lion King one! I think that would be my favorite out of this set.
Also this great set out of Japan, with Astro Boy, Doraemon, Pikachu, Hello Kitty, and I'm not sure what the last one (on the far right) is! But a very cute set nonetheless. Would love to have these in my collection!
OH I used to LOVE pingu when I was a child! How cute! I have never seen this stamp before but it's adorable!
I recently commented elsewhere that I find it strange that countries publish stamps on fictional characters, be it Disney or Harry Potter. While the stamps look beautiful, they somehow feel frivolous commemorating fictional characters. I guess I am too old school collector. And then I found out that India had released stamps of Panchatantra stories. Technically these are not cartoon characters but fables of the old lore. Wikipedia describe the Panchatantra as an ancient Indian collection of interrelated animal fables in verse and prose, arranged within a frame story. I don't have these in my collection yet and hope to get these sometime soon. I have a few Australian and UK stamps with cartoon characters. Will share more later.
