Hello all, some of the more senior members will remember this thread was posted by me some while back but thought it appropriate to re-post in this thread.

The fall of France was on 17th June 1940.

The battle of Britain received its name from a speech Winston Churchill delivered to the British House of Commons on June 18, 1940, in which he stated "The Battle of France is over. I expect the Battle of Britain is about to begin."

Date of Issue: 1965-09-13. Two sets were issued. Chalk-surfaced and
Chalk-surfaced with Phosphor bands, I have both sets in my UK collection.
Chalk surfaced paper gives better definition to the print.
For a lengthy decription of the events during the Battle of Britain.

    Regards, James.

Very nice set of stamps. I have them in my Aircraft on Stamps collection. The designs are somewhat unusual as they incorporate both English and German aircraft on four of the stamps. The first 4d has a silhouette of the SuperMarine Spitfire, perhaps the most recognizable British airplane design of the war, the second 4d supposedly shows a front cockpit view of a Hawker Hurricane, the third 4d shows overlapping wingtips of a Messerschmitt BF 109 and a British Spitfire, the fourth 4d portrays a flight of Spitfires attacking a Heinkel He 111, one of Germany's most used bombers, on the fifth 4d a flight of Spitfires is attacking a Junkers Ju 87 Stuka (on Werner's stamp above), and the last 4d shows the fin/rudder of a German Dornier Do-172 with a flight of Hurricanes silhouetted in the background. The last two stamps portray an antiaircraft battery and search lights and the contrails of air battles overhead. A must have set of stamps for Aircraft on Stamps collectors.

They are not detailed enough to say with certainty, but they resemble a
de Havilland D.H. 91 Albatross. The D.H. 91 was a pre-WW II design which de Havilland hoped could be sold as a transoceanic passenger airplane. WW II interrupted the airplane's development and the design was not continued after the war. If I were describing the airplane for my collection, I would identify it as a stylized or composite de Havilland D.H. 91.
