Seeking (most) issues of the 1869 Times and the four(?) 'Registers' (books) published by the same organization. Can anyone tell me the years the 1869 Times ran (1975-?) and how many registers were published (four)? I already have the 1869 Cover Census book. Thanks!
I believe you are correct in guessing that there are 4 volumes. Volume 4 came out in 1978 so the run appears to be 75-78. I saw volumes 3 and 4 available on Amazon.
It appears from the below link, the 1869 Times ran from 1975-1991. I only have a few issues (1981/1982). They must be scarce, I haven't found anything on eBay, ABE or Amazon. It is an entertaining publication although the production quality is less than (for example) the Chronicle. From the February 1982 issues it appears their Register came out in 1976, 1977, 1978 and 1982. http://www.uspcs.org/the-1869-pictorials/bibliography-reference-works/
Here's a link at Amazon for volume 4. http://www.amazon.com/November-Quarterly-Newsletter-Pictorial-Associates/dp/B00563RW52 Here's a link at Amazon for volumes 3. http://www.amazon.com/Quarterly-New...445202148&sr=1-2&keywords=1869 times volume 3
The first link is to their magazine, The 1869 Times, issue #2 for their 4th year. The Register is a book they published with in-depth articles, apparently 1976, 1977, 1978 and 1982. They called themselves The U.S. 1869 Pictorial Research Associates (!) but I haven't found anything searching that term, either. It seems they were absorbed by the U.S. Philatelic Classics Society. Jon Rose, one of their founding members, published The 1869 Cover Census which was a project undertaken by the membership over a period of years.
I posted the second link wrong for the 3rd volume. I edited the post. As for the Register I have found nothing to speak of. I would inquire with one of the philatelic libraries or a vintage bookseller if you are serious about finding copies.
