My mother works with Sr. Helen Prejean, who is the nun that wrote the book "Dead Man Walking". The book was turned into a movie a few years ago. Anyway my mother saves the stamps that they receive at the office. This is a cover that was sent to them in October. Though is was an interesting cover, esp. the back. It states that it was not censored. Also on the front the "MP East", stands for Main Prison East.

Wow that's really cool kacyds especially the story behind it! Thank you!

I have one but not sure one would call it an actual "prison cover" but it was sent to me from one of my delinquent friends...lol I digitally removed his last name and my (now deceased) Great Grandmother's address for privacy reasons obviously.
Clinton County Correctional Facility is the County Jail & Prison for anyone doing under 8-10 years as I understand it anyway.

Thank you. I really never thought I would ever get an opportunity to "showcase", as it were, such an obscure piece so it almost tossed in the bin a number of times...Sort of glad I didn't. Just a weird and sort of creepy topic.

now saying that my wife used to write to both Scott Peterson and Tookie Williams, both of whom can no longer reply to letters, i remember seeing the first letter arrive from San Quinten and wondering what the hell has she got herself in to now lol

when we get back i will get her to find me the covers and will put on here

I don't think San Quentin is in operation now is it? They might be sought after for just that alone and the contents to boot just puts them over the top! Good on ya mate!

Steve I think it is scanned against a Black background and not on the envelope LOL

Yes I scanned it against a black background. It's a black vario divider sheet.

I always knew not to through away such mail but then few collect these.

Here is an Official letter sent from an Inmate from a Correctional facility in Kroonstad, Orange Free State, South Africa, in two parts.

The G316 form seems to be the standard Aerogram/Letter used to communicate with the 'Outside'

Note that no postage was payable and it was censored by some official.

The very humble Letter was written in Afrikaans and was in response to my letter sent to him 18 March 1987.
In brief he explained not to have been able to respond due to a 'serious stomach operation' as he put it and wanted more order forms for stamps. (He was refering to pricelists I sent out at the time)

Somehow the correspondence dried up and no replies were received after the second letter from him which I too still have.

He is no relative or associate and would not know him from a bar of soap, for those who wonder ! .:D

And there was a pun in that story with a prisoner and a bar of soap....lol
  14. Philactica Active Member

Don't know about the pun but the 'black bordered envelope' and "Dead Man Walking" made me think of a recent DOE inmate on Death Row.

They say you never want to drop your soap in the showers while you are in prison.
