On Line Stamp Catalogues

Discussion in 'Stamp Chat' started by bickerstonehall, Feb 8, 2012.

  1. I have two great sites which are online catalogues for Russian and former Soviet Union States, plus a great online catalogue for Poland. Niether are sales sites, just sites which offer good information and a complete catalogue, plus they are free to use.

    Poland Stamps

Russian and Former Soviet Union Countrues

If you do not already know of these sites I hope you find them of great use, as I do.

Do any of you know of such good sites for other countries?

Along this line there is a catalog for Romanian stamps available at the following weblink:
    http://www.romaniastamps.com/

The early issues are covered extensively with really detailed descriptions of errors, variants, plate flaws...very in depth. The catalog has been updated to include all stamps up to the 21st century but I found the most interesting to be the pre-1940 parts.

    Hi

A useful on line reference for GB is contained at http://www.gbstamps.co.uk/stamps.asp for those of you outside UK who not have easy access to GB Concise. There is usually cross reference between SG & Scott, but I note that these are dwindling

Please remember that this is a commercial site and reflects a retail value rather than a cat value

Gibbons also do an online world catalogue for free ( but no pictures ~ so you need to know your reference number before you can get your cat values ) I am told that with a subscription, the site provides pictures as per a paper catalogue ~ but I am yet to have this confirmed

    Hope these help

LOL i have paid for the SG online catalogue for the last 10 years, and will not renew again.
they have updated for the first time in 10 years and i have to say seems to have less images now than it did before the upgrade, and is now very long winded in trying to search or add information about your collection.
in my own opinion i would give it a miss, i believe it is probably cheaper to buy the standard catalogues.
since joining this site i have been converted to scotts catalogues, they do some very good PDF files, that are easy to use and searching is a lot easier within each country.

    Thanks Steve

I will save my money then and just use the freebie version for current values once I have the SG No

you can also try Catawiki.com for values the moderators seem to update that quite often, as i was told off for using scotts 2008 prices as they were too low lol.
i now use this to catalogue my online collection rather than SG and it is free!!!!!!

Yes, thanks for posting these up here. I'm sure I'll find them beneficial when the time comes that I need them.

I just can't work that site? I put in all the information and nothing? Actually the type of information it requests is odd because if I knew all that I wouldn't of had to look it up to begin with? Maybe I'm doing it wrong. All I wanted to do is see a U.S. Scott #7 and Scott #24.
    Can anyone help me?

Also, This isn't Daniel Webster. It's Benjamin Franklin. I think I may be doing something wrong although I got an image that time!

    :D

Im glad its not only me, I thought I was doing something wrong too. I was trying to look up the first US stamp Scott#1 and I was getting all kind of stuff....

I start by selecting the country, then the year this breaks it down to 2-3 pages of stamps to look through

i will not say the catalogue is perfect, and it does not hold all scott or SG numbers, but you can add details to a stamp that is already there by click on the stamp image first, then once in the second screen click on change item, and add whatever is missing that you have the detail for.

when adding a stamp that is not on there you do not need to fill in all the fields, only the fields you know are correct, once you upload with an image others will fill in the gaps you have left

    hope this helps
