i purchased these yesterday. the first two i bought because they had #300 on them. i love the series, and thought it would be cool to have them on a piece of postal mail! plus the postmarks on them are from over 100 years ago, which adds to the "coolness" factor to me.

this one i purchased mainly because of the portales, nm, postmark. before living in cincinnati, i lived in new mexico for 11 years. grand total, i've lived in new mexico for 13 years. postmarks and precancels from new mexico have a special place in my heart. back to the topic now... after doing a bit of research on the motel, it seems that it no longer exists. there's an econo lodge on the lot where the diamond l motel used to be. the strange thing to me is that walter(the sender) drove about 20 miles down the road from clovis to portales before mailing the postcard. us70 runs through clovis and portales all the way to tucson, which is where i believe walter was going as it's just under 600 miles from clovis to tucson. i've been to portales, and clovis, many times in my life, and seeing as how portales is tiny (about 11,000 people live there), it seemed very random to find in cincinnati. it just called out to me and i had to add it to my collection.

Very nice cards, I like the Atlanta street scene the best :) (I like streets scenes they tell you so much about the people who lived in that period)

Nice postcards! I really like the Atlanta. I collect postcards showing history from surrounding cities from here where I live, and that is 1 I would like to have:D

very nice indeed, i too like most collectors of anything love history, and have done since i was a child, although my old dad use to say there is no future in it, his humour was terrible though lol

Steve R you have just helped me out there, i have been struggling to find a postcard with a ship on it, although i know i have seen them in the past, as a lot of USA and GB ships and cruisers stop at Georgetown docks for refill and RNR, but now i can also look at street scenes for you as well lol

once i have all the cards i need i will go to the post office and see what stamps i can get on the cards to post to you all.

Tom D and Zararina we have not traded yet so i do not have your address to post, so please inbox me if you would like to receive a Malaysian post card and let me know your likes so i can get one you will remember and want to keep lol

Great score in my opinion! I just recently have discovered the joy in collecting postcards! You get a stamp, a picture, a glimpse into someones life with a story, a cancellation and usually a notation printed about the subject matter. It's just a pothole back in time. I especially love the first one of the Flat-Iron building. There was a saying in the late 20's to mid 50's "23 skidoo" (I probably spelled that wrong) but it was thought to have originated around that building. I guess the wind in the city would really build a head of steam and blow up ladies dresses and so the men, not surprisingly, used to loiter to watch the spectacle, which would have been a big deal morally back then and the walking street patrol AKA: the police would tell them to ski-daddle or to skidoo! (basically to just move along)- so the reference was made to do the old 23 skidoo!
It was actually the first and fastest "hip" saying to sweep the nation and has been spoken in many movies and even cartoons of the day! Most notably, in my mind anyway, was Popeye the sailor man. Olive oyle was known to say it. I just yesterday watched that episode so that's why I remembered this!

Here is some information on it for your amusement-

OK I'm confused. It's either the N.Y. Flat Iron building or a building in Georgia from what the writeup on the actual card says but I can't tell if it's just the place that the card maker is from or if actually a similar building in GA.? I'm thinking it's the famous building in N.Y. personally. It's iconic and I never heard tell of a building like this in Georgia. Who knows? Great story anyway I think.

Well thank you for the "likes" but I wasn't clear on exactly which building that postcard referred to.
